We keep a flock of laying hens to supply eggs to our CSA customers. We have several heritage breeds, as well as novelty colored-egg laying hens to provide a mixed selection of brown, dark brown, blue, and green eggs in every dozen. We maintain the highest quality, gathering and inspecting eggs daily, and we sell only the freshest eggs to our customers. Our hens are fed a certified organic feed (never any GMOs or glyphosate-sprayed grains), and are allowed to free range on our 5 acre farm, supplementing their diet with free-choice bugs, worms, and plants. This ensures they lay nutrient-dense, tasty eggs with dark yellow yolks, of a quality you can't find in stores. Some owners try to cut costs by using cheap feed and kitchen scraps, but we believe this provides substandard nutrition for the birds, negatively impacts their rate of lay, and contributes to obesity and overall poor health in the chickens. Humans, too, can survive on cheap processed junk food, but it's not good for us, and doesn't keep our bodies in peak condition.
