Tosche Stacy with baby chicks

About Us

Our farm, "Tosche Homestead," is the product of a lifelong dream and a lot of hard work. (That's pronounced TOSH-ee. It's a Star Wars reference. We're nerds.)

For years, we were a pair of homestead dreamers, living in a small apartment in West Des Moines. In late 2020, that dream became reality when we found our perfect homestead, with its 130 year-old farmhouse, pond, barn, and plenty of space.

Stacy's the farmer in this family, having grown up on a 40-acre farm in Southern Iowa. We started with chickens, and that grew, as these things do. Breeding projects with Welsummers and Cream Legbars are ongoing, but the focus has shifted toward our goat herd.

We established a cashmere fiber herd and a small dairy operation in 2023, and that's where most of our energy goes now.

The farm runs seasonally. We kid out the does in spring, the babies get all the milk for the first month, and we start selling in late spring and run through fall. Eggs follow a similar pattern. If you're hoping to become a regular customer, late spring through early fall is the sweet spot -- signing up for our email list is the best way to know when we're open for the season.
