CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture CSAs create direct connections between consumers and farmers. By joining our CSA program, members buy a portion (or CSA share) of our farm's harvest for the year. Your purchase, paid in advance of the season, covers a weekly box of fresh, seasonal produce for the duration of the summer, and you know that you are investing in a local farm at a time of the year when expenses for farmers are very high and incoming revenue is very low. This allows us to make better investments in our farm ahead of the growing season. It's a great way to support local farmers and get the freshest produce, as well as affording you the opportunity to be adventurous and try new foods. Your purchase is about more than just fresh produce. It's about trust. We stand behind our quality, and grow according to organic practices. In the dirt. Without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. Because you deserve the best food possible. |

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?
You will find an average of 5-15 different vegetables, fruits, or fresh herbs in your box each week (a value of $30-40 if purchased individually at our farmer's market booth!) and will vary seasonally from week to week. The box size starts smaller in the early summer, and grows to larger sizes in the fall, as more produce ripens. We bring orders to the designated pick-up sites each week in plastic bins, and with each new membership, you'll receive a large insulated grocery tote at the beginning of the season, for you to keep and use to transport your orders home. (In an effort to reduce waste, we sanitize and use the same bins each week, rather than sending you home with single-use disposable packaging). There will also be a weekly add-on options for a dozen eggs from our hens (supplies are limited, so make this selection early!), as well as add-on options for cuts of pastured beef from our partners at Bexten Farms. |

THE FINE PRINT
We have a limited number of shares available each year, so to keep things fair, we will have a link to buy on our site, and announce in advance when the store opens for the season. Once all shares are sold out, you'll have to join next year's waitlist. After you purchase your share ($425 for 18 weeks or $225 for 9 weeks), you'll select your preferred pick-up site and receive an onboarding email. You'll get a few more email updates as the growing season begins, and once the harvest begins (first week of June), you'll get a reminder (via email or text message) each week to pick up your box on the date for the site you've chosen. When you get these reminders, you can (optionally) visit our website and purchase add-ons, change your pick-up site, or designate another person to pick up your box.
It's normal to wonder if you'll be able to use all the food you receive in your Veggie Box. We'll help you through it! With your membership, you'll receive a weekly newsletter detailing what's in that week's box, as well as recipes, preservation techniques, and storage tips, especially for those items that may be new to you.
Both the Full Share and the Half Share are a full-size Veggie Box, the only difference being that with a Full Share you get a box every week, and with a Half Share you get a box every other week. View the schedule above to see which pick-up dates are for Half Share customers.
You have a few options here. 1 - you can designate someone else (a friend or neighbor, perhaps) to pick up your box if you're unable to get to our pick-up sites, or if you'll be out of town for a time. 2 - you get two "holds" to use for the season (half-share members get one "hold"). If you can't pick up your box one week, you can use a hold to get a $15 credit to use for our add-on products in future weeks, in lieu of that week's Veggie Box. 3 - If you fail to pick up your box, don't arrange for someone else to pick it up for you, and don't use a hold, we will donate that week's box to a local food pantry.
A full 18-week share is the best value for a family of 2-4 people. If you have picky eaters or live alone, a half-share might be more your speed. If you love a constant supply of fresh veggies but are a little concerned about the quantity, find a friend to split the cost with, and share each week's Veggie Box with them!
Yes! Even compared to conventional supermarket prices. We did a comparison of an average "August" Veggie Box vs our local grocery store prices that same month. Your 18 week membership comes out to $23.61/week, and the contents of one box at grocery store prices came out to $37.48. That's a savings of $13.87 that week, and you have the added benefit of knowing your produce was picked at the height of freshness - it wasn't picked green to sit on a shelf for weeks before it got to your table.
We want you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase. If you're truly not satisfied with the produce you're receiving and want to cancel your membership, we will refund you $20 for each remaining box of the season.
GIVING BACK
Tosche Supply Co. will be donating 10% of our available shares each year to a family in need, facilitated by Eat Greater Des Moines, a central Iowa based non-profit that builds connections to strengthen the area's food system and helps provide access to quality food for all. We consider it a privilege to feed our community. |
